Reviews:
Modern Eon: Mechanic
Modern Eon are irritating, not so much for this soothing, wistful and strangely substanceless song, as for the way their early promise seems to have paled into preciousness. 'Mechanic' drifts into a deathly limbo that cries out for some colour. -NME August 22, 1981Modern Eon: Mechanic / Modern English: Smiles and Laughter / Modern Man: War Drums
Land sakes, have these people no imagination at all, at all? Let's see, now... Eon are electronic and vague, English are beafier but definitely indie sounding and Man are leaden footed sub-Skids (as in 'Charade' rather than 'Fields'). And guess what? The main thing they have in common is that they're all quite hopelessly, tragically out of date. -Record Mirror August 29, 1981Modern Eon: Mechanic / Modern English: Smiles and Laughter
The word 'modern' is much abused these days, some people thinking it to mean 'with great likeness or devotion to the ghost of Ian Curtis'. There's not a lot to choose between these two. The former is depressing, the latter is boorish and depressing. -Sounds August 22, 1981
