Modern Eon: Pieces EP
The Mersey Maelstrom that was so vital to '79 shows no sign of letting up in 1980. The city is producing good new bands as relentlessly as its football team wins matches. Modern Eon are the latest. As usual, The Doors and Talking Heads are the major influences at work, althought it's the likes of the Bunnymen and the Teardrop Explodes who have competition. This four-track EP on the band's own label is well worth hearing though Modern Eon, Despite that awful name, are probably more worth seeing live. -NME February 2, 1980
